Suspect in deputy-involved shooting dead

SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly deputy-involved shooting.

It happened Monday night in the Lakes at Westchester community.

This is located within The Estates of Westchester Country Club in suburban Boynton Beach.

Around 8:30 Monday night, dispatchers received a call about a disturbance.

The call came from a woman in the 6800 block of Camille Street.

She told dispatchers her husband and his friend were arguing inside the home, and, she said, his friend had a handgun.

When deputies arrived, they say, the woman exited the house. Her husband left soon after.

Investigators say they asked the armed man to leave the home, but he didn't cooperate right away.

When he did finally come outside, deputies say, he would not drop his gun and instead pointed it towards them.

At least two deputies opened fire.

The man, who is said to be in his 50s, was shot at least three times according to investigators.

Detectives have not released his name yet, but say he died after being transported to Delray Medical Center. "I panicked. I was panicking, because I said if this is happening here I said what's next?" said neighbor Theresa Rubino

The two deputies involved in the shooting are now on paid administrative leave. This is standard department policy.

A handgun was recovered at the scene. The handgun was covered in blood.
