Palm Beach Kennel Club racing dog missing

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The search is on for a racing dog that went missing in suburban West Palm Beach.

The Greyhound disappeared two days ago, and the Palm Beach Kennel Club is desperate to find it before it's too late.

Theresa Hume, the Kennel Club's marketing manager says it was a perfect storm for a dog to get away. "He scaled the fence," she said.

On Sunday, at their off-site kennel near Benoist Farms Road, a Greyhound leapt a fence then ran through a gate that was open for a truck delivery.

It hasn't come back. "He's probably hiding somewhere; he's probably scared," said Hume.

And maybe in danger.

The dog is wearing a muzzle, so it can't eat, and may be roaming the area looking for shelter. "It's heartbreaking," said Hume.

The 70 pound, 17-month-old Greyhound could be unaware of his surroundings. "We are hoping not anywhere near traffic, " said Hume.

The Kennel Club and animal rescue groups are combing the area and putting up signs.

The dog is so young it hasn't even raced yet.

But they're certainly hoping someone spots it, so that one day, it can grace their track soon. "He's somewhere just hiding out," said Hume. "He's probably scared. The best thing to do if you see him is to just get a hold of us."

They take heart in that, it's unusual for a Greyhound to go missing, so anyone who sees it will know who it belongs to.

If you spot the dog, you can call them at 561-683-2222.
