Woman charged with filing false report in VCU kidnap claim

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A woman has been charged with giving a false report in connection with an attempted abduction claim near VCU.

Cassandra Albrecht, 23, will be due in court later this month on the misdemeanor charge. VCU Police say after an extensive investigation they found her report of an attempted abduction near the campus unfounded.

VCU Police started their investigation after Albrecht claimed she was nearly abducted near the 300 block of N. Hancock Street in Richmond. She claimed the suspect allegedly grabbed her arm to pull her into an SUV, but she was able to pepper spray the suspect and take off.

After further interviews with the victim and analysis of electronic data and review of video footage from multiple cameras in the vicinity, police determined the report to be false.
