PSL woman accused of using child to help shoplift

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - A Port St. Lucie woman has been arrested and charged with using her 6-year-old son to shoplift at Walmart.

Port St. Lucie Police say Evelyn McSweeney was spotted by the store's loss prevention officer shopping with her young son.

Investigators say McSweeney was seen taking a Lego set from the toy isle in the grocery section.

When McSweeney got to the check out register, she gave the toy to her son.

The child, according to police, tried to put the Lego set on the conveyer belt, but McSweeney instead put it in a Walmart bag.

Police say the child carried the toy out of the store that wasn't paid for.

According to police, McSweeney was also arrested on June 1 for allegedly using juveniles to carry merchandise out of Walmart without paying.

McSweeney has been charged with retail theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
