COMMONWEALTH BAY, ANTARCTICA (WFLX) - There is a new plan to rescue people trapped on a ship in Antarctic ice.
If the weather cooperates, rescuers will bring in a Chinese helicopter to airlift 54 passengers and four crew members.
The latest attempt to free them was called off Monday because of bad weather. The Russian ship, with more than 70 people on board, has been stuck since Christmas Eve. Wind pushed sea ice all around the ship.
The vessel isn't in danger of sinking, and there are a weeks' worth of supplies for the scientists, tourists and crew on board.
