RIVIERA BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The family of a woman accused of taking off with her young kids and keeping them in a cold car all night without food is now blaming cocaine.

"The drugs have hold of her. The drugs are doing this to her. She can't think. She can't do anything. It is really sad," Candice Jackson's grandmother said.

The Department of Children and Families took Jackson's four children after they say she kept the children in a Lincoln Town Car all night long with soiled diapers, not enough clothes, and no food.

"I feel so bad for those kids. I am only here to help the kids if they need to go home with me," the suspect's grandmother said.

Jackson's grandmother says she has been worried sick since Candice and her kids, with ages ranging from six months to four years old, disappeared Sunday.

The children spent Tuesday afternoon at the Riviera Beach Police Department after officers got a tip that the car was on Old Dixie Highway.

"We did find cocaine on the mother," Riviera Beach Assistant Chief David Harris said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jackson told police she spent the night driving around looking for cocaine and allowed drug dealers to come to the car all night.

The report says officers found three bags of cocaine. It also says one of the children was found face down on the front seat of the car next to an alcohol bottle and only one of the children was wearing a shirt.

Jackson faces four counts of child neglect and cocaine possession.

The Department of Children and Families says they are investigating and that they have had previous dealings with the family.

Court records show Jackson has been in trouble before on battery and cocaine charges.

In court Wednesday a judge set bail for Jackson at $60,000 and revoked her bond on a previous drug charge. She was also ordered to avoid all contact with her children.
