Suspected thieves lead security guard on car chase

Antioch, TN (WSMV) -

A suspect is on the run after allegedly leading a Walmart security guard on a wild chase and crashing a car.

The security guard at the Walmart on Hamilton Church in Antioch says he spotted two men in their 20s stealing a cart full of items from the store around 1 a.m. on Friday.

When he confronted them, he says they took off and jumped in a silver Pontiac.

The security guard followed them outside, which is when he says one of the suspects backed up the car and hit him, knocking him over.

The security guard jumped in his own car and tried to follow them.

A few minutes later, the suspects crashed near the intersection of Bell Road and Zelita Avenue.

One of them got away, but the other one was injured.

Police say the security guard saw the wrecked vehicle, broke the driver's door window, took the suspect out of the car and held him until police arrived.

The suspect, who police say will be charged with aggravated assault, was later taken to the hospital.
