1 dead in collision that propels car into light pole

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 23-year-old woman died after the car in which she was a passenger was hit and redirected into a light pole Monday night.

Shanteesha Sharp, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.

The driver of an SUV was traveling west on Camelback Road and attempted to turn left onto southbound 111th Avenue when it struck the vehicle Sharp was in on the driver's side.

The drivers of the two vehicles were also wearing seat belts and are expected to be OK.

Both drivers were taken to local hospitals. Police detectives said there were no indications of impairment.

The investigation is ongoing.
