Boca parents: Man tried to lure kids into car

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - In the last 10 days, two reports have come out of suburban Boca Raton from children who say they were followed by a man in a car.

Their mothers are trying to spread the word around the neighborhoods near Verde Elementary and Hammock Pointe Elementary hoping it will keep kids safe.

Liz Ruotolo says her 12-year-old daughter had to run to her aunt's home last Wednesday because a man with black curly hair in a gold car was following her.

"He stopped and said, 'Hey, little mama get in the car'. She ignored him and kept walking. He turned and came back around and said, 'Get in the car,'" said Ruotolo.

Ruotolo called police and posted it all over her Facebook page to alert other parents. She learned she wasn't the only one. "I found another woman who described the same incident, same car, time of day, same area, West Boca," said Ruotolo.

Joline Scanlon says her 11-year-old son was walking home from his school bus stop along Powerline Road south of Camino Real on January 24th. A man similar in description in a gold car followed him.

"He saw a man pass him and make a U-turn, stop at a nearby house, and sat watching him. My son didn't want to go home and show where he lived," said Scanlon.

Both kids made it home safely and unharmed. School police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office were called, but no arrests have been made.

School police increased patrols at Verde Elementary and an officer made sure the boy got home safely the next day, and became familiar with his route home.

"I'm angry, I want this person caught," said Scanlon.

"I want people to know someone is out there looking for a kid," said Ruotolo.
