ST LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - The former U.S. Army captain, accused of shooting and killing her husband last week in St. Lucie County, appeared in court Thursday morning.
Valerie Ann Lowe, 53, faces a charge of second degree murder.
On the night of the shooting police say Lowe admitted that she shot her husband, identified as 59-year-old Laurence Edward Daly.
Lowe told police she was involved in a domestic argument with her husband when she shot him with a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.
In a five page arrest warrant, Lowe claims she and Daly were arguing about bills. She says it became heated when Lowe brought up a female friend of Daly's.
Police say she claims he hit her.
Police say there's no evidence that happened and that, as a military veteran, she was trained to protect herself.
Police believe Lowe wanted out of the marriage and say her computer shows that she was contacting men using online dating sites.
At Thursday's court hearing the judge denied to set bail for Lowe.
