WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The first baby animal of the year at the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society was out and about on Wednesday.
The female Baird's tapir calf is only 2 days old, but, zookeepers say, she is active and energetic.
Each tapir birth is important for the survival of the species, because they're endangered.
A milestone for this baby caught on camera—while zookeepers were capturing her on video this afternoon, they saw her go up to her mother, "Alyssa," and nurse for the first time.
"Alyssa" rejected her first calf. Because she's allowing her new baby to nurse, it's a sign that she has accepted this calf.
