Hundreds of animals removed from Jupiter home

By Brian Entin

JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach Animal Care and Control's Disaster Response Team raided a Jupiter home Wednesday morning.

The residence had hundreds of animals inside.

Crews found parrots, chickens, baby birds and bird eggs along with dogs, rabbits, ferrets, mice and more.

Crews in HazMat masks combed through the home and found 109 birds alone.

Thurman Theftt, the 84-year-old owner of the animals, said he lost his wife and son last year and the animals are all he has left. "They weren't in the house. They were in the garage. I moved them in because of the weather. Some of them had babies. "

Was it getting out of hand a little? He was asked. He said, "No, I wasn't complaining about it."

Investigators say conditions inside the home were deplorable.

Theftt gave up the animals voluntarily and was not charged.
