Celebrate "Save the Florida Panther Day" at Palm Beach Zoo

Posted:

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (PALM BEACH ZOO) - The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society is honoring Florida's state animal during "Save the Florida Panther Day" on March 15, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Zoo. Mirasol, a native Florida panther, will be the Zoo's star attraction during the family-friendly event designed to highlight the plight of the endangered Florida panther through interactive activities. Mirasol will receive a special enrichment activity at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. during Panther Talks.

On-site adventures include games and crafts that will be educational about Florida panthers, to teach children about their endangered status in the wild. Steve Gryb, renowned children's percussionist, will offer music with a message by showcasing songs that are environmentally-themed, with three separate performances in the Fountain Plaza. All other children's activities will take place in the Florida Pioneer House in the Zoo, next to the panther habitat.

"People will save what they care deeply about," said Jan Steele, General Curator for the Zoo. "So our mission is to help guests to connect with Florida panthers, understand how important it is to share the planet with this endangered species, and to act on their behalf. Through education, we hope to show how Florida can be a wonderful place to live, not only for the people who live here, but also for native panthers and other wild animals."
