DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The South Carolina woman, who Daytona Beach police say, drove her van into the ocean earlier this week with her children inside is linked to a fatal 2007 wreck in Delray Beach.
Ebony Wilkerson, 32, made national headlines after driving the van into the surf with her three children inside the vehicle.
On Feb. 23, 2007, a wreck occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Congress Avenue exit, according the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators said Douglas Krane of Fort Lauderdale was driving to Palm Beach Gardens with his wife and newborn daughter in the car around 8:36 p.m.
Wilkerson, who then lived in Delray Beach according to FHP, was also traveling north on I-95 when she attempted to change lanes.
FHP said Wilkerson hit Krane's car in the rear on the right side, causing his car to rotate clockwise, crossing the Congress Avenue exit ramp and crashing into the concrete barrier wall.
Krane's wife, Jennifer Krane, died from injuries she sustained when the car hit the wall.
Investigators say Wilkerson was driving erratically, and she was cited for making an improper lane change.
FHP said no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
Wilkerson will face three counts of attempted first-degree murder after she was pulled from her sinking van by good Samaritans in Daytona Beach who rescued the children.
