Delray Beach packed full of St. Patrick's Day events

By Chris Stewart

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Workers are finishing preparations for St. Patrick's Day weekend that will kick off Friday night.

Organizers are expecting more than 100,000 people to come to Delray Beach for the festivities Friday and Saturday.

Events Friday

There will be a traditional Irish Festival from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts off Atlantic Avenue.

There will be performances by Irish stepdancers, bands and bagpipe players.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation will have a head shaving fundraiser that starts at 7 p.m. at the center for the arts.

Events Saturday

The St. Patrick's Day parade will step off at 2 p.m. Saturday and go along Atlantic Avenue.

Pre-parade festivities start at 11:30 Saturday morning.

Organizers say this year people will not be able to drink along the street during the parade like in the past. In previous years, there has been a waiver where people could drink as the parade goes by, but this year police will tell people to pour drinks out if they are seen consuming alcohol on the street.

Parking will be available for $5 at the South County Lot on West Atlantic Avenue next to the courthouse and behind the library from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Old School Square is also offering parking on Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday for $5.

Street Closures

Street closures begin at 11:30 a.m. at Andrews Avenue to NW 5th Avenue. Atlantic Avenue from Andrews to NE 7th Avenue will open as parade goes west.

Streets closed from SE 5th Avenue to Swinton until 6 p.m.
