DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - If you live in a community that has a lot of rental properties, state lawmakers could be sending changes your way.

There is a bill in Tallahassee calling to give local government more power into how properties in their communities are rented out.

The bill would not let communities dictate how often properties are rented out but would allow them to impose rules on things like trash, noise and traffic.

According the Sun Sentinel, supporters say, the bill is all about the rights of the people who live near the rental properties.

People complain of a revolving door of neighbors who might not respect their community because they are only there for a couple of days.

Several property owners are against the bill. The owners say it would violate their rights and hurt their business.

"Were this bad legislation to become law, vacation rental property owners could see their rights at the local level completely discounted. It's not fair, and it damages a $31 billion portion of Florida's tourism economy," said Paul Hayes on the Florida Vacation Rental Managers Association's Facebook page.

The FVRMA says Florida is the top market for vacation rentals in the country.

If this bill is passed into law, it would go into effect July 1, 2014.
