WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - All Aboard Florida plans to run 32 passenger trains between Miami and Orlando with stops in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
The Federal Railroad Administration's High Speed Rail Division wants to hold the railroad to "sealed corridor" level of safety guidelines, specifically in the area from West Palm Beach and northward where trains can go up to 100 mph.
"In my personal opinion, I respectfully disagree with the Project's approach in that they are not exercising appropriate safety practices," said engineer Frank Frey.
The engineer recommends putting up barriers including gates and lights to protect people who cross the tracks.
These upgrades would cost $47 million. Right now, it's unclear who will be footing the bill.
