ONLY ON KOLD: Crossover accidents on I-10

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson News Now continues an investigation into the most dangerous parts of Interstate 10.

There are sections of the highway between Picacho and Phoenix that are not protected with median barriers to keep vehicles from leaving the road, crossing the median and going right into oncoming traffic.

Two years ago, Tucson News Now followed the story of Lindsay Glazer, who lost her dad and her little sister when an SUV jumped the median and hit the family's van.

A jury found the Arizona Department of Transportation at fault for the 2007 accident and awarded the Glazer family more than $7 million.

After that, ADOT tried to appeal the verdict and get a new trial.

An attorney for the Glazer family tells me the Glazers have just won their battle.

The Arizona Court of Appeals upheld the verdict.

The deadly accident happened at mile post 171, just before the Chandler-Gilbert exit.

The Glazers' attorney argued ADOT was responsible because there are no barriers there on the highway--

nothing to stop runaway cars from ending up in the opposite lanes.

Less than a year later two other people died in an accident at that same mile post.

A full-grown male jaguar named "El Jefe," and at least one other cat like it, may provide opponents of President Trump's border wall with a unique legal challenge. That is that cutting off these cats from their larger population in Mexico would doom them to re-extinction in the United States.

Federal laws let service dogs go anywhere the public goes but there isn't much regulation of those who train the dogs.
