Mom accused of battery on bus driver speaks out

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-- One of the parents accused of battery on a Palm Beach County School bus driver was released from jail Monday.

Shacaurra Burns insists she did not punch the driver last Monday.

"I did lose my temper. I believe the tape on the bus is going to be horrendous on my part because I was using foul language. But I did not put my hands on him," Burns said.

According to the bus driver, parents boarded his bus at a bus stop off of Executive Drive and beat him. He said he feared for his life. His fellow drivers organized a protest for justice on Monday.

"The bus driver was basically letting the kids off the bus one at a time because they were not sitting in their assigned seats. It was crazy because everyone wanted to go home," Burns said.

She says she got on the bus to get her son at the stop, but couldn't get off because she says the driver closed the door.

"How do you tell me to get off a bus, but then lock me in it? That is preposterous," Burns said.

The incident was caught on school bus surveillance video, but the district has yet to release it.

"I was protecting the kids, protecting the property of the school district, and protecting myself," bus driver Jean Beauzile said.

Burns and another parent are charged with battery, trespassing, and cruelty toward a child.

"He deserved everything he got that day," Burns said.

School Police say they are looking for another suspect who was involved.
