MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - Four Memphis firefighters are recovering after a wall collapsed on them during a massive blaze in downtown on Saturday.
Smoke could be seen billowing from miles around Memphis and the Mid-South. The fire ignited around 3 p.m. at an old commercial building located at 806 Walnut Street.
The fire and smoke was big enough that it was even picked up on the weather radars at WMC Action News 5. Neighbors living near the abandoned warehouse could hear the roof cave in.
All of the injured firefighters were hospitalized in non-critical condition; three were sent to Methodist University Hospital and one to the Regional Medical Center.
Firefighters say the building was listed for sale and they do not know if it was occupied at the time of the fire.
Ninety-four emergency responders were on the scene, fighting the blaze with more than 40 pieces of equipment.
