Victim's friends search for hit and run driver

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A tight-knit group of friends in Delray Beach is fed up and determined to find a hit and run driver. Their friend was struck along Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach Tuesday, she is now in the hospital.

Police are hunting for a lime-green mustang convertible.

NewsChannel 5 obtained surveillance video from Pizza Rustica a couple of blocks from the scene.

It shows a group of friends on skateboards and rollerblades west on Atlantic Avenue about 1 a.m. Tuesday, just moments before 20-year-old Natalie Bucala was hit.

"This guy flew out of nowhere, there was no chance anyone had a chance to see, hear or do anything," said Nick Swab, who witnessed the incident.

Swab stood inches from Natalie until help arrived. Police rushed to the scene, but the driver had already taken off.

"He looked at Kristian and Natalie and said she shouldn't have been in the road and floored it," said Swab.

Now the group is determined to find the driver who fled.

"A bunch of us are going store to store and canvassing we're asking anyone who can help us with leads, any-- anything, did they see anyone or do they know anyone," said Swab.

"There's power in numbers, and there's a lot of us and one of him. There are a lot of us who are not going to stop until Natalie gets justice, you know she's in bed right now and can't do anything but there are a lot of us out here who can," Jayme Ross, Natalie's friend.

Police sent out a picture of a lime-green Mustang, similar to the one they are looking for.

Meanwhile Natalie remains in the hospital, struggling to complete physical therapy. She suffered a sprained pelvic and cuts to her face.

"Imagine if it was your sister, your family member, I mean have a heart," said Bucala.
