LOXAHATCHEE, FL (WFLX) - Syed Balkhi's stepchildren got a surprise they weren't expecting at Frontier Elementary in Loxahatchee Tuesday.
After spending the past seven and a half months serving overseas in the Navy, Balkhi returned home and surprised his stepson and stepdaughter in class. "I was thinking he would be coming home tonight or coming in a few days," third-grader Macaylah Butler said.
Balkhi snuck up on the third grader while she was reading an essay she wrote about him to the class. "My stepdad is my hero. He is my hero because he is in the navy," Butler said.
After surprising his stepdaughter in class, Balkhi surprised his first-grade stepson. "This is amazing. I just want to spend time with them…go to the beach and the pool. It has been seven months without them waking me up in the morning," Balkhi said.
The student's teacher Kimberly Goodman said in 18 years teaching, she has never seen quite anything like this.
