National Walk to End Alzheimer hosted in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FL - For the first time, the National Walk to End Alzheimer's will be hosted in Boca Raton and will take place at Mizner Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, October 11, 2014 (register now).

Organizers really want to show Boca/Delray/Boynton/Parkland and Deerfield Beach off to its best and hope that members of our community will help the Alzheimer's Association® achieve just that.

Registration for this Walk, unlike many other walks of its kind, is FREE to encourage as many people to participate as possible, as the goal of this event is not just to raise funds but also to promote awareness.

Alzheimer's remains one of the least understood diseases, yet it is the 3rd leading cause of death in our country. As you may have heard on NBC news recently, the latest reports indicate that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 11 men will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's over the age of 65 and that women are 2x more likely to suffer from Alzheimer's than breast cancer!

You're probably aware of Alzheimer's disease, but did you know that this disease is an epidemic affecting millions of people? Right here in Florida there are 500,000 people living with this disease and 1.5 Million serving as their caregivers. These numbers are staggering and will continue to rise, unless something is done.

The Alzheimer's Association® is leading the fight against this devastating disease, but they can't do it alone. Whether you want to support family or friends living with Alzheimer's, stop rising health care costs or prevent future generations from ever knowing the devastation of this disease — we all have a reason to end Alzheimer's. Here are three ways that you can make a difference:

1. PARTICIPATE. Register FOR FREE for this walk and create an Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® team. Just register your team at www.alz.org/walk.

2. VOLUNTEER. Many volunteers are needed! To get involved, please contact the chairperson of the walk, Pamela Polani, a local probate and estate planning attorney, at polani@bellsouth.net or (561) 496-4222, for more volunteer information.

3. SUPPORT. The Boca Walk's Kick-Off Party will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2014, from 5:30-7:30 at JAZZIZ Nightlife Restaurant and Bar, located 201 Plaza Real in Boca Raton, in Mizner Park.

Companies all over South Palm Beach will be donating incredible items for the silent auction—a great way for local businesses to showcase themselves while supporting an important cause. In addition to the fabulous silent auction, there will be a photo booth, local media to cover the event, a DJ and more. Special Thanks to JAZZIZ, Code Collection Events, 4th Avenue Photography, Lancero Media, Gulfstream Publications, Dawn of Designs Graphics & Santa Barbara Photography!
