WEAVER, AL (WBRC) -

Investigators are looking into why an armed man with no police background walked into the Weaver City Hall and threatened to arrest the mayor.

Weaver city employees were confronted Tuesday morning by a man armed with a pistol and claiming to be an FBI agent. Mayor Wayne Willis says the man walked in the door and demanded to see him.

"He indicated that if I had resisted arrest, his intent was to shot me," Mayor Willis said.

Willis was not at city hall at that time. City employees tried to calm the suspect down.

"He became openly agitated, wanted to come back and look for me. They would not let him into the building. He stormed out vowing that he would return," Willis said.

The incident was caught on surveillance footage and an eyewitness was able to provide police with a partial vehicle tag number. Within the hour, deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and Weaver police were at the home of 59-year-old Bobby Beck.

"What's funny is the gentleman has no idea who the mayor is. He wouldn't recognize him if he saw him, didn't know his name. He was here to arrest him due to the mayor being part-time and not full time," Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush said.

According to officials, Beck claimed being a part-time mayor was illegal.

Bush says Beck was taken into custody and is awaiting a psychiatric evaluation.

"This was a very dangerous and volatile situation. And it placed Weaver employees in a dangerous situation and I take that seriously," Willis said.

Willis says they will be addressing security issues at city hall.

Police charged Beck with making terroristic threats, impersonating a police officer, and transporting a pistol without a permit.
