Free pregnancy tests to be put in Alaskan bars

ALASKA (WFLX) - In an effort to lower the rate of birth defects in Alaska, free pregnancy tests will be put in several bars. It is meant to make women think twice before binging on booze.

According to the CDC, Alaskan women of child bearing age are 20 percent more likely to binge drink than the national average. "What we're trying to do is evaluate the evidence and say is this an effective way of reaching people," says Dr. Janet Johnston of the University of Alaska Anchorage

The two-year program will start in December.
