FLORIDA JUDGE WON'T DISMISS MEDICAID LAWSUIT

A Miami federal judge has refused the state's request to drop a years-long lawsuit alleging the state is providing inadequate care to children in its Medicaid program. The state argued Tuesday a massive statewide overhaul to privatize Medicaid will solve allegations that children can't get doctor appointments and improve doctor participation by raising reimbursement rates. The state filed a motion arguing the lawsuit, which was filed nine years ago, was moot because of the Medicaid privatization.

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI PLAYERS ARRESTED

Two University of Miami football players have been arrested on sexual battery charges. Court and jail records show JaWand Blue and Alexander Figueroa were booked on the charges Tuesday. Both are 20-year-old linebackers for the Hurricanes.

The assistant public defender who scuffled with a judge in the hallway of a central Florida courtroom has resigned. In a resignation letter submitted Monday, Andrew Weinstock says he disagrees with his boss's support of Judge John C. Murphy returning to the bench after a leave of absence following the June 2 altercation. The judge returned to the courtroom a week ago.

REHABBED SEA TURTLE RELEASED

A green sea turtle named Bubba Gump is back in the water. The rehabilitated turtle was released Tuesday morning off Honeymoon Island. The turtle was treated at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium after being found floating face down in Tarpon Springs on March 2.
