Standoff with deputies ends peacefully

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - What began as a domestic dispute resulted in a standoff with law enforcement in central Palm Beach County.

A woman called the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office complaining her brother fired five shots at her not long after she left a relative's apartment on Lakewood Road near Military Trail.

The victim said the incident began around 7:30 Monday morning. She said she was asleep in the residence when the relative woke her up and questioned her about some missing crack cocaine. She was then told to leave.

The victim claims the argument continued as she walked past the apartment toward the road. At that point she said her brother, Kyle Aaron Smith, shouted profanities at her and then fired five gunshots in her direction.

Smith called her a snitch and threatened to put a bullet in her, according to probable cause affidavit.

Deputies could not get him to come out which resulted in a standoff with a SWAT team.

Deputies eventually arrested Smith and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In 2010 he was convicted of robbery in Broward County, according to the affidavit.

Deputies booked Smith into the Palm Beach County Jail.
