MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a South Florida man killed his girlfriend and then himself during a police standoff that lasted several hours.

Police say the standoff ended Sunday night when officers entered the Hialeah home. They found 39-year-old Julian Ovalle and 31-year-old Rossana Sabater dead. Officials believe Ovalle took Sabater's life before taking his own, but police didn't immediately say how the two were killed.

The Miami Herald ( ) reports that police initially responded Sunday evening after relatives reported a suspicious incident. Three children who lived at the home were not harmed.
