BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Bowling Green Police are
investigating an attempted abduction that occurred Monday afternoon, just
outside the police station.
Police say a woman tried
to lure a girl into her car just after 4 p.m. near the intersection of Church
Street and Wooster.
"She looked over, made eye
contact with the passenger (of the suspect vehicle), then [the suspect] again
said get in the vehicle and started opening the door," explained Major tony
Hetrick of the BG Police. "So she ran to the police building and came inside
and told dispatchers what just happened."
surveillance video of the intersection, investigators found footage of a car
that they believe may be the suspect's vehicle: an early ‘90s mid-sized gray
"It did not have a clear
plate, so that's what we would have to find, and some characteristics of that
vehicle that would match the video," Major Hetrick said.
The passenger that
allegedly tried to lure the girl into the vehicle was described as a heavy-set
woman, possibly in her mid-thirties, with a short, buzzed haircut.
Hetrick says the child was
very alarmed when she came to the police station, so they are treating the
incident as an attempted abduction, but they would like whoever is responsible
to come forward and tell police their side of the story, just in case it was
all a misunderstanding.
"If this person's out
there and knows that they were in the vicinity of Church and Wooster, and
talked to a young child and the child took off from them, it would be great if
they would just come to us and tell us, ‘Hey, this is what happened,'" Hetrick
The police also urge all
children to do exactly what the girl in this case did, if they ever find
themselves in a similar situation – never get in the car with or talk to
