More than 100 SW Fla warehouse workers detained

Posted: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - More than 100 workers have been detained by the state's insurance fraud agency for allegedly working at a local vegetable packing plant using false identities.

Immigration activists say Collier County Sheriff's deputies booked at least 103 workers into the jail by late Wednesday. Most of the workers were presumed to be in the country illegally.

A voicemail for the company known as Incredible Fresh was full Thursday morning, and a message could not be left. Its website was under construction. But owner Alfie Oakes told The Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/1zMAss8) his company never "knowingly hired any illegals."

A local pastor told the newspaper at least one of the women detained was 5 months pregnant.

Authorities say the charges are connected to identity theft cases in 25 other states.
