LOXAHATCHEE, FL (WFLX) - The Amorphophallus Titanum, stands at 6 feet 2 inches in Loxahatchee. It is in full bloom at Tropical Bamboo Nursery and Gardens. For about 24 hours, it will be the smelliest plant in the world.

"An open Dumpster. Hot Dumpster in the sun or a landfill," said Robert Saporito, owner of the nursery. For the first time, he is seeing - and smelling - the fruits of his labor. "Rotting meat, rotting flesh, even lunch meat would be accurate," he said of the plant.

Monday marked Becky Kobussen's third trip to see the putrid plant. "It's mainly fish and trash. Dead fish and trash at this point," she said.

Dozens of people chose to stick their nose right into the worst of it before the stench suddenly subsides.

"It's the plant. It's coming from the plant. I just think that's the coolest thing," said Kobussen. "I've just been a giddy little school kid ever since I found out it was here."

"It attracted the flies that we thought it might but I'm not sure I expected so many people," said Saporito, who extracted pollen out of the base of his plant so that it can help grow another one of the rare corpse flowers in the future.

By Tuesday, he said, the smell of this particular plant will likely be gone.
