Housing rules change for sex offenders in Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - If you live in Palm Beach County, sex offenders and predators could soon be allowed to move into your neighborhood (Look up Florida Sexual Offenders & Predators).

County Commissioners changed the ordinance for unincorporated Palm Beach County Tuesday stating sex offenders can now live 1,000 feet from schools, playgrounds and other spots where kids congregate. Previously, the minimum distance was 2,500 feet.

Residents, as you can imagine, are not happy. "It just makes me kind of want to see a map with the demographics on housing, and how hard it really is for them to find the housing I guess," said Emanuel Alex who lives in unincorporated Palm Beach County.

Martin County still stands at a 1,000 feet minimum while other areas are at 2,500 feet.
