LOS ANGELES, CA, August 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Popular product review site ConsumerReview.org announced today that it had posted a review ranking the effectiveness of various Garcinia Cambogia supplements, which rocketed in popularity recently after a favorable mention by Dr. Mehmet Oz on his popular TV show.

According to Helen Murphy, Senior Editor, Health & Wellness, ConsumerReview.org looked at the ingredients, company reputation, product testing results, consumer reviews, cost-per-pill, and return policies. "With consumers regularly spending $100 or more per bottle, we felt it was important to critically evaluate what companies claim and what they deliver."

Garcinia Cambogia is a small pumpkin-shaped fruit found in Southeast Asia. The fruit contains an ingredient called hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which has been proven to help people burn fat. HCA is what makes Garcinia Cambogia so effective as a dietary supplement.

According to ConsumerReview.org, a quality Garcinia Cambogia extract should contain 60% HCA, a 1,600mg daily dose, and no additional ingredients other than a small portion of potassium to help with HCA absorption. Most brands did not pass these criteria.

Some of the Garcinia Cambogia companies included the right ingredients, but had too little HCA, which is the key compound in Garcinia Cambogia. They use much less than what was used in the clinical studies that led to fat loss. Other companies filled their supplements with cheap fillers, binders, and other synthetic ingredients. Almost all of them avoided quality control testing.

In the end, ConsumerReview recommended three products from well-regarded manufacturers: Research Verified, LifeExtension, and Nutrigold, and included a detailed analysis of each product's strengths and weaknesses.

Research Verified received a #1 Top Choice award for its use of pure ingredients in the exact amounts documented in Garcinia Cambogia studies and for publishing third-party documentation.

LifeExtension received 4 stars (out of 5) for its purity and for being 100% vegan, but lost a star due to dosage issues.

Nutrigold received 3.5 stars (out of 5) for the quality of its ingredients, but lost points due to lack of published testing and dosage issues.

ConsumerReview.org publishes a range of articles on health and wellness topics of interest to consumers.
