SWAT standoff outside Vero Beach apartment

VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Vero Beach Police SWAT officers again called for a suspect to surrender at an apartment complex just before noon Wednesday.

UPDATE WED 2 PM:
The SWAT officers had been seen breaking windows in an apartment at 40th Avenue and 18th Street where a suspect in an attempted murder case was holed up.

Police earlier locked down Rosewood Magnet School as a precaution, and 40th Avenue is closed in the area.

The standoff started about 8 a.m. Wednesday when agents with the U.S. Marshal's Service attempted to serve arrest warrants on two men at an apartment in the 1800 block of 40th Avenue, south of State Road 60, police said.

The Marshals Service identified the men as Sumter County residents Lyndon Ford and Patrick Mobley. They were sought on warrants for attempted first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder connected to a shooting in the city of Webster in August. One of the men surrendered, police said.

Indian River County Fire Rescue has arrived as backup at the standoff, and more officers are arriving.

Police are telling neighbors that the man in the apartment might be armed.

According to a release issued by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Ford and Mobley are sought along with three other men who have already been arrested.

Previously: A Vero Beach Police SWAT officers are outside an apartment Wednesday morning at 40th Avenue and 28th Street trying to get a suspect out of an apartment.

Police are locking down Rosewood Magnet School as a precaution.

The standoff began when officers with the U.S. Marshal's Office tried to serve warrants at an address in the 1800 block of 40th Avenue in Vero Beach.

Officer Morrison with the Vero Beach Police Department said two suspects are in custody, and they are searching for a third.

One of the suspects was being sought on an attempted murder charge out of Sumter County, Florida.

Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived as backup at the standoff, and more officers are arriving.
