PALM SPRINGS, FL (WFLX) - A bank robber, who opened fire on police, was then shot by officers Tuesday afternoon in Palm Springs.

At 12:05 p.m., Palm Spring Police Department received a call of an armed robbery at the bank, which is located at 2685 Forest Hill Boulevard between Congress Avenue and Florida Mango Road.

When police arrived at the scene, the robber fled the bank and shot at officers, said Edgar Morley with the Palm Springs Public Information Office.

The officers returned fired injuring the man. He was transported to JFK Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life threatening, said Morley.

Some people inside the bank sustained minor injuries, according to Morley. It's unclear how the people inside the bank were hurt. No officers were hurt during the incident.

"We confirm that a robbery occurred at our Forest Hill store in Palm Springs earlier today [Tuesday]. The safety and well-being of our customers and employees is our number one priority and we are working closely with law enforcement on their investigation," a TD Bank spokesperson said in a statement.
