LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - Army Specialist Brandon Zalewski has spent the past three years serving overseas. He worked as a military patrol officer in Germany, Afghanistan and Africa. This week, he came home and surprised his little sister.
Kaylee Zajicek is an 8th grader at Woodlands Middle School in Lake Worth. Her mom, Debbie Zalewski, says Kaylee is Brandon's biggest fan. "She loves him so much. He's just a mentor to her," Zalewski says. She adds, "She asks me all the time, 'when is he coming home? When am I going to him?' I said, 'I don't know, maybe Christmas?'" But Zalewski knew better. Her son was coming home in October, a few months before Christmas.
With the help of staff at Woodlands Middle School, Debbie planned a surprise reunion for Army Specialist Zalewski and his younger sister.
Camera crews captured the reunion in a cafeteria filled with students and teachers.
When Kaylee saw Brandon, she ran into his arms and gave him a big hug. "No words can describe how much I love him," Kaylee says. "I just missed him so much," she adds.
Brandon's family doesn't have to worry about him going overseas anytime soon. He is scheduled to go to Fort Campbell in Kentucky for training.
