FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (WFLX) - Firefighters from across the area paid tribute Tuesday morning to the firefighter hit and killed by a car a week ago.

A service for Lt. Kevin Johns took place at The Sanctuary Church at 1400 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

West Palm Beach Fire Rescue, Boynton Beach Fire Rescue, and Delray Beach Fire Rescue all planned on sending firefighters to show support at the funeral.

Johns was hit by a car as he worked to fix a tire on the side of I-95 in Boca Raton last week.

Johns lived in Jupiter and was on his way to work.

He served on the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department for 29-years and planned to retire in April.

Johns leaves behind a wife and three children.
