MIAMI (WFLX) - You can only imagine the amount of pain a dog is in -- suffering with second degree burns -- now hidden behind bandages covering almost his entire body.

Mariya Facca and her father now stay by Facca's dog's side. "I don't know -- this is like a nightmare."

She says her now ex-boyfriend, Alain Williams, poured boiling hot water on the dog, named Moon, when she broke off their abusive year and a half long relationship. "He was yelling, screaming, saying, 'This is my dog, my dog!' But if it was your dog, why would you do that to her?"

The dog is now hooked to an IV of powerful pain medications. "Her bandages need to be changed at least once a day, and it's gonna take at least a few months before the skin heals on its own," said the veterinarian caring for Moon.

Williams is behind bars and faces charges ranging from tormenting to mutilating an animal. "The dog was found in the shower, very scared," said the judge in court.

The judge says Williams has a history of domestic violence. He completed a domestic violence program already back in 2005. "The court notes your level of violence toward the animal, towards police."

"I didn't want nothing to happen to my dog. I love her so much, said Facca.
