Off-duty NPB officer arrested after crash

NORTH PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - An off-duty North Palm Beach Police officer faces charges of drunk driving and causing an accident.

Damian Izquierdo, 42, was arrested Tuesday by Jupiter Police after he crashed his car into another vehicle and drove off.

Izquierdo, who has been with the North Palm Beach Police Department since 2002, has been charged with DUI causing property damage and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to the crash report, obtained by WFLX, Izquierdo drove into the back of a tow truck that was stopped at a traffic light.

The crash left the tow truck with minor damage to the lift. The off-duty officer was driving his personal SUV had damagae to his bumper.

A witness who drove by and saw the crash then called 911 while following the SUV.

A Jupiter Police Officer eventually pulled over the SUV and ordered Izquierdo out of the car.

According to the report, Izquierdo denied having caused the crash, refused to cooperate with the arresting officer and was verbally combative.

He was handcuffed and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail. His court date is set for November 19.
