You watch him on Fox 29 News, but did you know all these fun facts on Charlie Keegan?
Home Town: Kansas City, Mo
Family Life: No kids or pets. I have a younger brother who is also a journalist.
What was your first car? A 1992 Volvo 940. It's the only car I've ever owned. Still going strong today with 300,000+ miles!
What was your first job? Working with my dad. He's a mechanic who runs his own auto repair shop. I'd spend summers and breaks from school turning a wrench with the old man.
If you weren't working in news, what would you be doing? Probably helping out at dad's garage. I could never have a job where I'm sitting in an office all day. I need to keep my hands busy.
What's your favorite part about living in South Florida? Gotta go with the beach. I love being so close to the ocean. The water is crystal clear, and it's warm enough all year long.
What do you miss most about home? The food, especially good old KC BBQ. We're a Gates family, if you know your KC bar-b-que landmarks.
What's your hidden talent? Not many people know I speak a foreign language. I have a bachelor's degree in French and spent a semester studying in France during college. Unfortunately, I'm getting rusty. With languages, you use it or lose it.
If you were left on a deserted island with only three things, what would they be? Sunscreen would be critical for me. I'd also like a TV so I could watch FOX29 News and stay connected to the outside world. Maybe most importantly: Chocolate. Can't go long without curing my constant craving.
What's your favorite Fox 29 show? "The Simpsons" is a classic. I also like "New Girl".
Why do you love working at Fox 29? It's something different everyday. I never know where the day will take me, and I love the adventure.
One final fun fact on Charlie: I'm a sports fanatic and was heartbroken to see the Royals lose after coming so close to winning the World Series. There's always next year.
