Stuart detectives looking for motive in slaying of mother & son

STUART, FL (WFLX) - Armand Rubino said his longtime neighbor, Gloria Bono, had recently overcome a big health scare after breaking her hip.

"I thought, 'Oh my God, she's not going to get out of the hospital because she's older'. [She] came out, was walking around, [I] couldn't believe it. Michael was very proud of her," said Rubino.

Gloria and her adult son, Michael, lived in a quiet Stuart neighborhood off Aster Lane.

Gloria's daughter called detectives Monday after she couldn't reach them. "I was praying for them that they would be found alive, but it's hard to find out what happened," said Rubino fighting back tears.

The Bonos were found shot to death inside a home in the Stuart Yacht and Country Club. Detectives believe Robert Gulick invited them to the home, where he was the maintenance man. "What was the motive? What was going on that propelled him into this violent crime?" asks Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

The Sheriff says Gulick and Michael Bono knew one another. "They both had their own businesses, their own offices, and those offices are in the same building in downtown Stuart," said Snyder.

State records did not show any updated businesses for either man.

Robert Gulick's father runs Gulick Construction downtown. He had no comment Tuesday.

Tuesday, a car, believed to be owned by Robert Gulick, was found outside an auto repair shop. It had been left there Friday as surveillance pictures show Gulick leaving the area.

A rifle was recovered at the Best Western in Stuart where Gulick's body was found. He had checked in a few hours after the murders.

Sheriff Snyder says Gulick's last known address was also in the Stuart Yacht and Country Club. But the people living there now have no connection to this case.

As for Michael Bono, his neighbor Armand Rubino said Bono had told him last week he planned on getting back together with his ex-wife.
