Puppies rescued from puppy mill available for adoption

 By Jamel Lanee

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - More than a dozen puppies, rescued from a puppy mill, are now up for adoption at the Tri County Animal Rescue in Boca Raton.

The line was long outside the shelter Sunday morning as many people were anxious to adopt one of the 15 puppies rescued from a puppy mill out of Tennessee last week. "I heard that there was a Boston Terrier, so that's the one I want," said Dawna Bone.

On the inside, Norman and Nola Genzer have their hearts set on Coco, a 1-year-old Yorkie. "We have a little Yorkie at home, and we wanted a little playmate for our Yorkie, as well,” said Nola.

Suzi Goldsmith, founder and Executive director of Tri County Animal Rescue, said 96 puppies in all were confiscated. "These animals were kept in chicken coups, could hardly stand up, were fighting for food, living in their own feces. it was just deplorable,” she said.

A poodle, named Luis, has a deep gash on her neck and marks on her face. For three years, she was never let out of her cage. "She has horrendous scars and open wounds still,” said Goldsmith.

Two Pomeranians are still shaking and are afraid of human touch.

It's people, like Dawna, who are here, hoping to give them a second chance at a better life. "I just wanted to give them a home, so that they can be loved and just have a good place to be,” she said.
