WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A big deadline ends Monday afternoon, and it has to do with a proposed signature building that could change the city's skyline in West Palm Beach.
Next time you cross the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and North Dixie Highway in downtown West Palm Beach, take notice of a piece of land, known as the tent site, at the northwest corner. The city of West Palm Beach owns it and have spent a great deal of time looking for a developer.
The idea is to build a two-tower medical complex on the tent site, but not everyone is on board. On Monday, the time is up on the 30 day clock for anyone to formally submit a better idea for this site. We checked with the city just before the Thanksgiving holiday, and, they say, nobody had proposed a different idea.
Some people are concerned this complex will hurt existing medical centers. It would have inpatient rehab, physical therapy and an urgent care center.
If no one submits an idea by Monday, the proposed developer will have 18 months to strike a deal with the city, agreeing on a dollar amount, for the medical complex.
