Port St. Lucie safer thanks to "Operation Happy Holidays III"

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - Police in Port St. Lucie have been busy this holiday season cracking down on guns, drugs and other crime.

Police said 56 people have been arrested in what police call "Operation Happy Holidays III". The operation has been ongoing since September 15.

Officers talked about the mission at police headquarters Tuesday. "We highlight this just to show the public what we're doing out there, but these types of investigations go on every day, every day. So at the end of this it doesn't end, we just pick back up and keep moving,” said Port St. Lucie Police Sgt. Charlie Lumpkin.

This year 10 guns were taken off the streets along with several drugs.

About 2.1 lbs of marijuana, 285 pills, 13 grams of heroin and 1.9 grams of cocaine were confiscated in the operation.

Police also said they seized two vehicles and $16,284 in cash.

Officers are still looking for two more suspects related to the operation.

This is the third year of "Operation Happy Holidays".
