DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A drunken driver swerved his car onto the sidewalk in Deerfield Beach, striking and killing a woman who was was waiting for the bus, the Broward Sheriff's Office reported.

Jamie Lynn Honaker, 41, of Deerfield Beach "was sitting at a county bus stop on the north sidewalk near the 1400 block of West Sample Road" shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday when Mark J. Jusevic, 56, of Coconut Creek, driving a GMC Safari, jumped the curb and hit her, according to BSO.

Police said Jusevic continued west on West Sample Road for about two blocks before his van, which had extensive front end damage and a flat tire as a result of the crash, came to a stop near the 1600 block. "Jusevic exhibited signs of impairment when speaking with detectives," according to the sheriff's office statement.

Honaker died at the scene.

Police charged Jusevic, who was arrested for DUI in 2005, with DUI causing death and failure to give information or render aid, DUI alcohol or drugs (2nd offense), DUI with damage to a property or person, failure to remain at an accident involving death, and failure to use due care. He was booked into the Broward County main jail where he remains on $102,000 bond.

A few days earlier, a crash in Deerfield Beach claimed the lives of two pedestrians when an elderly couple was struck as they crossed a residential street.

Philip Kendall, 85, and Francine Freedman, 80, were crossing Ocean Drive from west to east in the 600 block of North Ocean Drive shortly after 7 p.m. Dec. 17, when Mark Lasman, 64, of Boca Raton, driving north on Ocean Drive, struck the two with his 2007 Lexus RX350, according to police.

Freedman died at the scene and Kendall was taken to Delray Medical Center by Boca Raton Fire Rescue where he later died. The couple had just moved into their Boca Raton beachside neighborhood days earlier.

Lasman remained at the scene.
