Grinch steals Christmas presents from Greenacres' family

By Michelle Quesada

GREENACRES, FL (WFLX) - While many spent the day enjoying their Christmas presents, one Greenacres family was not so fortunate. A thief stole all the gifts from the family of six.

There was plenty of joy on Christmas morning at the Murphys' house. The children woke up and under the tree there was confirmation that they've been very good this year. They posed with their favorite gifts, a set of Disney princess dolls, including Frozen's Elsa and a skateboard. "We're not rich. We don't have much, so when we work hard for our kids you know, you want to see your kids smile," said Natasha Murphy.

That was the first and last time the kids ages 7, 4 and 9-months-old saw their gifts. "It's just one of those things you don't think it's going to happen to you," added Murphy.

The family left the home on Jennings Avenue around 10 a.m. to go to Grandma's Christmas brunch. When they came back, a Grinch had stolen and wrecked Christmas. "There's shoe track marks with dirt everywhere," said Murphy.

Candles were knocked over. There's shattered glass all over one of the bedroom floors.

Murphy said they think the burglar got in through a window where they ran an extension cord to connect Christmas lights. They say the crook stole a flat screen television and all of the toys left laid out on the living room coffee table. "They didn't even get to play with their stuff, literally still packaged," said Murphy.

The Christmas tree stands alone now and the kids are asking what happened to their gifts. "It's unfortunate that people do that on Christmas. I didn't want it ending up like a sad thing for my kids," she said.

Now that Christmas is over, officials remind families not to leave any boxes or packages of expensive gifts outside of your home in the trash. That lets burglars know what you may have inside the home.

Anyone with information on this burglary is asked to call the Greenacres Police Department.
