DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy is being detained by Delray Beach police after a fatal shooting at the Franklin Apartment Homes Wednesday morning.

UPDATE, FRI 3:30 PM: The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Khamis Shatara, according to a medical examiner's report. Delray Beach Police say Shatara is the son of the deputy involved and believe the incident was domestic-related.

The deputy involved is Shatara K. Shatara, who has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2006.

The circumstances of the shooting have not been released.

Previously:  Delray Beach police said they received a call about a shooting just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found an off-duty deputy and one person dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators will only say that the shooting is domestic related.

Delray Beach police department is handling the investigation with the assistance of the state attorney's office.

A neighbor said she was walking her dogs this morning when she saw dozens of police officers.

Lauren Helerstein said, "I walked out and there were like several cops, I would say about 20 to 30 police officers running by with assault rifles. Everyone had their weapons drawn and they were telling me to get inside my house and lock my door."

Police continue to investigate what happened. Investigators said they're trying to gather more information.

Investigators will not release the deputy's name or the person who was killed at this time.

Police have not revealed if the deputy lived in the complex or how long he's been with the sheriff's office.
