Hostages safe after holdup at Palm Springs store

PALM SPRINGS, FL (WFLX) - Authorities are searching for three armed men connected to a grocery store robbery Thursday morning in Palm Springs. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the robbers entered Casa Vieja grocery store, located at 4077 Lake Worth Rd., around 7:45 a.m.

Six people, a combination of shoppers and store employees, barricaded themselves in a back room of the store.

When Palm Springs police arrived, they were concerned the suspects were still inside the store holding the people hostage, so they called the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for assistance.

The suspects were not in the store and are still at large right now.

One person inside the store suffered minor injuries after they were pistol whipped by a suspect.

PBSO went into the store around 10:45 a.m. and rescued the six people inside.

“They ran and they found a place to secure themselves that they can defend and hide. Anytime you get involved in a situation where you can get out of there in a hurry… get out of there in a hurry,” Sheriff Bradshaw said.

Lake Worth Road near Kirk Road and Military Trail was closed but was being reopened by 11 a.m.
