Palm Springs Police search for suspect in attempted abduction of 14-year-old girl

 By Meghan McRoberts

PALM SPRINGS, FL (WFLX) - Palm Springs Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct a teenage girl near her bus stop Friday afternoon near 10th Avenue and Sierra Road.

Police say the 14-year-old was walking east on 10th Avenue when a man parked his car in a nearby daycare parking lot.

Then, police say, the man approached the girl, asked if she needed a ride, and then tried to grab her.

Police say she got away, ran home and reported the incident.

Police say this is the second time that suspect approached the girl in about a week.

Police are also investigating if this case is connected to another recent crime against children.

Greenacres police say a man approached two children near Greenacres Elementary School Thursday and asked them to lift their shirts.

Then, police say the suspect also exposed himself to an adult.

While they say there are distinct differences in the case, police say there are also similarities that have the departments sharing notes to see if the cases could be related.

Lorene Mabry lives in the area of the attempted abduction with her two kids. Her 11-year-old daughter rides her bike in the area frequently. She also has a 14-year-old boy. "We knew the neighborhood. We've lived here for years and years," Mabrey said.

She's keeping her kids a little closer to home after hearing about the attempted abduction. "It steals your comfort," Mabrey said. "We keep an eye on her. Maybe make sure she and her brother pair up and play together or something like that."

Palm Springs Police describe their suspect as a white man in his early 20s, 6'0 tall with dark hair and a piercing over his right eye. He was seen by witnesses driving a red newer model car.

Greenacres Police have not yet released a sketch of their suspect.
