100 couples marry at sunrise in Fort Lauderdale to support gay marriage

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (WFLX) - Some cities on Florida are cashing in as more people are visiting the Sunshine State to tie the knot. On Thursday, 100 couples are showing their support for gay marriage by participating in a mass wedding at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

The ceremony was scheduled to be held on the beach, but inclement weather has moved the event inside. Both gay and traditional couples who wanted to support the legalization of gay marriage are tying the knot at the event.

A couple from Boynton Beach, Jessica and Charlene, grew up in the area and said they have been friends for more 10 years.

Jessica always said she dreamt of getting married on a beach at sunrise. Many flew to South Florida from across the country and around the world for the ceremony.

Former 'N Sync band member Lance Bass and his husband were among those in attendance.

On Wednesday, a federal appeals court in Atlanta said it will not move forward with Florida's gay marriage case until the Supreme Court decides this issue.

The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision on the validity of these marriages in June.
